MISSION

ACLI – Abolish Child Labor in India – is an effort to help prevent child labor in mica mines. Our platform is dedicated to advocate the use of mica-free makeup, and promote research for an alternative to mica in makeup, which will aid abolishing child labor in the mines.

VISION

For every child to be HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND SAFE

STORY

This project started when I was 11 years old. I was searching places to visit in Jharkhand – as my dad is from there – and bumped upon mica mining and illegal mines. This grabbed my attention, and I started becoming more curious in the topic. As I was looking, I found a video by refinery29 (Click this link to watch the video) about illegal mica mining in India, specifically in Jharkhand with the use of child labor. When I watched the video, I realized kids like me and my friends were sitting here with great opportunities, a healthy lifestyle, and a safe environment provided for us, but the kids working in the mines were living below the poverty line, with poor hygiene, and no way out of the infinite mining system. I then decided to help abolish child labor in India, especially in mica mines as it is one of the most dangerous minerals to mine. Mica in makeup isn’t a necessary and can easily be replaced with ethically sourced alternatives. I started ACLI to create awareness about this not-so-known problem and help find an alternative to mica in makeup, so these children can have a better future.
